The Sonoma County Hiking Trails
Sonoma County has some of the most impressive and varied hiking in the world. Any particular Sonoma County hiking trail could include waterfalls, rich slopes, massive rocks, dense redwood passageways, and water views. Dense foliage and staggering backdrops create captivating trails for eager adventurers.
The trails are typically divided by difficulty, with easy, moderate, and challenging designations. Ragle Ranch, Santa Rose Creek, and Spring Lake all feature wide pathways, well-marked trailheads, and calmly flat surfaces.
Moderate trails expose hikers to some uneven terrain and tighter paths. Shiloh Ranch is one of the most popular, with additional trails in Helen Putnam and the stunning North Sonoma Mountains.
Taylor Mountain Regional Park is considered the de-facto hiking area for an added challenge. The park contains 1,100 acres of oak woodlands and creeks, with various levels of elevation to test your endurance.
You can also venture into some of the highest-challenge trails by exploring the intricate paths of Shiloh Mountain. It’s a rich escape, with weaving trails and steep slopes throughout the most assuredly-magical places in Sonoma County.
Outdoor Tours
While you can go it alone, outdoor recreation is often best explored on a guided tour. Tours bring added life to the many magical trails and parks of the county.
The Glen Allen Green Tour invites the eco-conscious to expand their knowledge of the natural community in Northern California. The tour ventures through the Jack London State Historic Park along with the beautiful Quarryhill Botanical Garden and ends at the Benzinger Family Winery.
Luther Burbank Home and Gardens is a majestic celebration of the long life of world-renowned horticulturist, Luther Burbank.
Visit his home and take a drop in guided tour of the famous Carriage House and gardens for a fascinating educational look at Burbank’s horticulture contributions. See the different areas of the gardens which feature roses, ornamental grasses, medicinal herbs, and many unusual plants.
More Outdoor Activities
This just barely touches the natural attractions of Sonoma. There’s no end to the many outdoor wine country things to do. After exploring the many wineries, you can continue your vacation adventures with fascinating outdoor activities for the whole family.
The area is known for some stunning whale watching, and it is one of the only places in the world where this is feasible. Stand up paddleboarding, ziplining, scuba diving, canoeing, and horseback riding help round out the many enthralling outdoor possibilities.
For Hiking/walking, we would recommend Armstrong woods in Guerneville; it is a stunning redwood filled state park. River’s Edge is a great place to rent Kayaks for a day on the river. A wonderful day of fun in the sun!
